Colour trends of 2023!

With the New Year comes a new set of interior design ideas, or (more specifically) colour trends. In this blog post we discuss which colours are in, inspiration for 2023 and look at tips for how you can bring these to your own home.

Viva Magenta

Grey walls are a thing of the past; the year 2023 is bringing colour to the table. Bold, daring tones are coming to the forefront - just take a look at Pantone’s colour of the year ‘Viva Magenta’. This colour brings an uplifting energy and has been described as an “exuberant and optimistic shade of red”. Although it may seem daunting, this striking hue can be a real show-stopper or focal point of a room.

Earth tones

The trends predicted for 2023 have done a complete 180 from its preceding years. Rather than looking for comfort and neutrality, this year is forecasted to bring a level of detail and sophistication that was missing from our lockdown, sweatpant-wearing days. Think rooms with accents of mauves, greens and browns. According to British vogue “shades of brown continue their decor dominance”, replacing the cold grey tones seen in the years before.

Dopamine decor!

One term that has been highlighted for the interior design industry in 2023 is ‘Dopamine Decor’ - using colour, pattern and accessories to promote happiness. These ‘happy’ colours can be found all around, but are mostly seen within nature, linking to the earth tones that are favoured this year. In 2019, Farrow and Ball even released a collection of paints in partnership with the Natural History Museum based on colours found in nature. These bright and bold tones found in the collection would be sure to boost dopamine!

How to incorporate in your home?

So, how can the colours of 2023 be brought into your home? If you are feeling modest, begin by incorporating them into your space through prints, cushions or other accessories. This way, you can subtly introduce colour into your home, without it being too radical. However, if you are feeling brave, the colours trending this year can be embraced in your design through a feature wall, coving or even a painted ceiling!
