Bridport is a lively market town in Dorset tucked between Lyme Regis and Weymouth. Our interior design process
If you’ve not experienced an interior design project before, you might be wondering about the process and what it involves. Below we have provided a brief summary of the stages typically involved at KTM Design (these stages are designed around RIBA’s Plan of Work, the UK model for building and construction processes), so you know what to expect. Please note that depending on the scale of your project, this process could look different.
Preparation brief
The first thing we’ll do is take time to sit down with you to discuss your project and what you hope to achieve from your new space. We’ll also determine the timescale we have to complete the work, your goals and what your budget is.
Concept design
We’ll then begin to explore various design styles and finishes as we develop the floor plan and spatial layout. We’ll also create early 3D models and visuals of the area including furniture, fabrics and lighting ideas.
Design development
The interior layout, materials and finishes are then refined and lighting concepts as well as mechanical and electrical (M&E) requirements will be specified. During this process we also consider what the needs of the construction team will be.
Technical design
We’ll put together a detailed construction pack with finishing schedules, furniture and fixtures and equipment specifications (FF&E). Any sanitary, joinery and electrical requirements will also be considered.
Construction
A contractor will be appointed and construction on the project will begin. We work closely with contractors and FF&E supplies throughout the process as this helps to ensure that work is carried out correctly and allows us to advise on any specialist subcontractors should they be necessary.
Handover and close out
Finally, we’ll visit the site to decide whether any further work is needed to ensure that the brief is met. Once ourselves and the client are satisfied with the work, we’ll handover and the project will come to a close.
