Cottagecore - a comeback to rural interior design
With the past year seeing us spend more time inside, people are choosing to switch to a cosier environment which celebrates rural living and a self-sufficient way of life. The trend is inspired by the days of ‘yore’ reflecting a simpler time; with charming traditional touches scattered throughout. There are some classic similarities between the Cottagecore trend and the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century. The main link between the two is the fact that they both have a nostalgic, handmade quality which is present throughout. Steph Briggs of LaDiDa Interiors claims that “both mark a reaction to the damaging effects of industrialisation and social conditions. This view is as poignant now as it was in Victorian times”. It is clear to all that people are moving away from the fast lane, seeking a more effortless way of life, or that of an idyllic English countryside cottage.
