Rustic Vogue - a follow up to Cottagecore

Cottagecore, the trend that started in 2010 and exploded during confinement. The interior style by which most residential client swear by and wish to achieve for their family home. To give the serenity of a cottage house, the calm and comfort needed during times of isolation, and the nostalgia of a childhood spent in the countryside.

But today we’re looking at its big sister, which takes cottagecore by the hand and gives it a touch of modern, so that all generations; grandparents, parents, young adults and children will all love it!

Rustic Vogue, also called rustic modern, is perfect for mixing the old and the new, to work alongside your home’s original features and add natural textures and contemporary accessories.

Beams, floorboards, panels

To achieve a great Rustic Vogue design, it is best to start with a house offering as many amazing features as possible. The home structure; its fireplace, floorboards, beams, country cottage doors and windows will give you the rustic, while accessories and colours will give you the vogue.

You can recreate the effect with various panelling (we do love our boiserie) as long as you keep the harmony between the old and new. This kitchen integrates perfectly the old beams and floorboard in a bright and airy design, with recreated panelled kitchen counters and a sleek and modern white marble top.

Reclaimed shelves, travel finds and art

The art of styling a Rustic Vogue display starts with reclaimed shelves, scaffold planks or driftwood set on a neutral background. Then adds in the finds you might have accumulated throughout pre-covid travels or during visits to the antique shop. Don’t overdo it, find the few pieces that have meaning and pair it with some dried plants, books and artwork with a sleek frame. Play with the heights of your treasures, contrast with dark tones while staying on a neutral palette.

A blank canvas layered with textures

The base of a Rustic Design is the neutral, bright and simplicity associated with the Countrycore style. To finish the look, add some different materials and texturise the room through your accessories.

The dining area in this photo show a perfect balance between the pure white walls and panelling, the soft wood of the floorboards and the rustic country table set with a coarse jute rug and rope pendant.

Work with a variety of textures, from soft to rough, aged to modern.
